Where Quiet Gathers is a reflective poem paired with an atmospheric landscape painting by Choctaw artist Connie D. Phillips. Moving through breath, mist, shadow, and ancestral memory, the work explores the quiet moments where land, silence, and inner release meet. This piece speaks to emotional stillness, spiritual seeking, and the wisdom held in deep places—both in the earth and within the self.

Where Quiet Gathers

The land exhales.

Gray light loosens its grip on the sky.

The loblollies shiver,

Releasing raindrops that still cling to emerald needles.

Cool mist wraps the forest,

Silencing the chatter of squirrels.

Here, I walk where ancient footsteps fell.

Shuddering,

I release the dark,

Absorbing the silence of pines,

Seeking wisdom from the deep.
